Fine Arts and Design
Bachelor

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie aims to support talented young people in such a way that they can operate independently in the field of visual arts or design.
The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is a university of applied sciences for Fine Arts and Design. You can choose between two fulltime bachelor degree programmes of 4 years, and four master degree programmes. At this moment we offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Design within the bachelor programme, but from September 2014 on we have one bachelor: a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design. Within this programme, there are various specialisations. Following a general first bachelor year of studies, called the Basic Year, students choose one of these specialisations. This is followed by three years of in-depth study within the specialisation. The Rietveld Academie also offers a part-time bachelor programme of five years, in which the Basic Year takes two years, followed by three years of in-depth study.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.
