Local public services, such as waste collection, health services, clean water and social security, have a great impact on our daily lives and well-being. However, in many countries, poor and marginalised people often lack access to these important services. Local governments are best positioned to improve access for all and make a difference. To do this, they need sufficient capacity and resources as well as clear arrangements with and support from central government.

With the Sustainable Development Goals as a starting point for discussion, the course focuses on how local authorities can increase the quality and accessibility of public services for all citizens. The course discusses tools and methods for financing local services and examples of citizen involvement and public-private partnerships.
