Focus is on management of a pig farm as entrepreneur/advisor, tackle constraints, seize opportunities . Insight in factors effecting productivity and production. To monitor and communicate.
Focus of this programme is: advisor in pig business, manager of a pig farm or entrepreneur in pig husbandry. On farm AI is an additional aspect in this course.
The programme contains assignments on farm level, applied lectures and practical training, leading to applied farm analysis with translation to improved technical/economic results.
This requires insight in the management aspects within different pig farms. This implies that one should be aware of applicable production standards and using them in an appropriate way.
Knowledge on pig behaviour and the ability to monitor pigs is also necessary to draw conclusions concerning the performance of the farm.
The focus also implies that one should be a discussion partner for stakeholders like managers, veterinarians, feed suppliers and consumers. Peppered with a lot of practical training (understand, advice and optimize in different professional situations).
A well-motivated business plan for a pig farm is written.
