Online Course Sanitation Technology
Short or summer course
Non-sewer as well as sewer-base sanitation is becoming a more and more state-of-the-art technology. As cities are exponentially growing, traditional sewer-base solutions to provide good sanitation for all, do not suffice. Instead new approaches, such as City Wide inclusive sanitation, are been used to fill up this gap. While being at MSc level, the course has a professional practical orientation. The course gives the participants a review on the basis for the technology design of non-sewer and sewer based sanitation technology solutions. The course is organized in 5 main units: Sewer-base sanitation, Containment/Capture of non-sewer based sanitation, Sanitation for informal settlements, primary treatment and decentralized & secondary treatment systems. At the end of this course, participants will possess not solely the fundamental understanding of the review technologies but also the knowledge necessary to create professional impact ‘on the ground’. It is expected that by the end of the course the participant can elucidate and decide on the most adequate technological solutions to deal with the waste generated from non-sewer sanitation.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.
