
Water Economics
Short or summer course

The course is intended to provide basic knowledge and skills needed to understand and apply economic concepts, theory and instruments for characterizing, analysing and addressing modern water issues within the socio-economic context taking the behaviour perspective. The course setting is characterized by 3 major sections: 1) economic foundation of water management, encompassing principles of economics, water demand and supply, market mechanism and efficiency of water allocation, and welfare economic analysis of water management, 2) socio-economic characterization of water and associated goods and services, and management & policy implication as well as challenges, and 3) economic instruments for water management, including tradable water rights and water pricing. The course combines diverse didactic approaches, including lecturing, role play games, workshops, case studies, exercises, and group assignment to activate participants thinking and relating economics to water issues in the real world.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study.
