Archaeology: European and Mediterranean Archaeology

The European and Mediterranean Archaeology track will equip you with in-depth knowledge and research skills on new methods and current themes in Archaeology. This track offers specialist courses on Greek and Roman archaeology, and covers themes such as Mobility and Migration, Historical Archaeology, Heritage and how to conduct high-quality research. You will focus on the history of ancient Europe and the Mediterranean world from the Bronze Age until the Early Modern Period.  The small-scale setting of the MA programme provides the ideal setting to combine theory and practice. You will acquire in-depth knowledge through thematic courses and research skills through specialised, small-scale research workshops. You will learn to operate academically and professionally, according to the highest standards.

Theory meets practice in this unique Archaeology programme that’s offered jointly by VU Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam. You’ll benefit from a strong theoretical focus as well as practice-oriented modules in which you’ll interpret field data and study archaeological materials first-hand.
