Asian Studies: East Asian Studies (60EC)
Master
This one-year Master's programme in East Asian Studies offers you the opportunity to study China, Japan and the Koreas, as well as connections within the region from a range of disciplinary angles. Choose from thematic and disciplinary courses, as well as country specific courses focused on the history, arts, philosophy, language, culture, politics, international relations, and societies in East Asia.
All students enrolled in this programme have an advanced level of language proficiency in Mandarin, Japanese or Korean, and will learn to use primary and secondary sources in these languages in their research and writing.
Expertise on Asia at Leiden University is internationally renowned. As a student of the MA in East Asian Studies, you will learn from some of Europe's best scholars in the field, many of whom are at the leading edge of Asia-related research in Europe. Small classes will ensure you have the opportunity to interact closely and regularly with your lecturers throughout your studies.
