Biomedical Sciences
Bachelor

The 3-year, English-taught Biomedical Sciences (BMS) bachelor explores how the human body works in day-to-day life, during periods of illness, while ageing and during peak (sports) performance.
You learn step-by-step about the biological processes: from the molecular, cell and tissue level, to the most complex organs, and ultimately the body as a whole. However, you also look at the body's response to environmental factors (e.g. diet, exercise) and unhealthy behaviour. The knowledge you acquire during the programme can be used to improve health and the performance of the human body under various circumstances.
BMS has a different emphasis than Medicine. In medicine, your objective is to heal individual patients. As a biomedical scientist, you don't treat patients. Instead, you use scientific knowledge to gain insight into the processes underlying human health and disease. During the bachelor's, you'll spend quite some time in the lab for your practicals.
BMS is such a vast field that it is impossible to know everything about it. It is for this reason that BMS has been set up to not only cover a wide range of topics but also to be extremely flexible. You choose the themes and course units that best match your interests, talents and ambitions, so that you can thoroughly prepare yourself for your future career.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study.
