The Research Master in Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) is a unique interdisciplinary programme that explores the dynamic intersections between the arts, science, and technology. It combines approaches from Science and Technology Studies (STS) with insights from the humanities, including history, philosophy, literature, and the arts. What sets CAST apart is its dual focus: it treats science and technology as creative practices, and the arts as material ones. With a strong emphasis on the 20th and 21st centuries, students examine how cultural, scientific and technological developments shape and reflect society. You will gain hands-on experience in a range of research methods—from ethnography to archival research—and work closely with the faculty on real research projects. CAST prepares you for a PhD, but also opens doors to careers in government, cultural institutions, education, policy, and more.
