The Master in History is taught at the most ancient Roman city in the Netherlands. Academic excellence is provided through one English-taught specialisation: Ancient and Medieval Mediterranean Worlds.
The specialisation 'Ancient and Medieval Mediterranean Worlds' focuses on the Roman Empire and the role of its capital city, drawing its influence across Byzantine and Medieval history, the Renaissance and up to our days.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.

Admission
Application requirements
You are admissible if you have a completed a Bachelor's degree in History (USA = major in History) or a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related field like Greek and Latin or Archaeology. Your degree has to be equivalent to a Dutch research university diploma. The Admission Board will determine if an international student has the required knowledge to be admitted.
If you do not meet these admission requirements, it may be possible to take a one-year pre-Master's programme and enrol in the Master's programme a year later, after successful completion of the pre-Masters.
