As a student in the international track of the Bachelor's degree programme in History, you learn to interpret events that took place in the past and are still relevant today. You learn to look for connections between various developments, examine evidence, to dig deeper and to boldly ask critical questions.The programme takes three years. The first year provides a survey of history from Antiquity to the present day, as well as Dutch history in globalizing contexts. Meanwhile you begin developing your research and writing skills. You will also start studying regional formation processes, based on a region of your choice. In the second year, you dive deeper through the historical themes of political culture, cultural history, and economic and social history, in courses related to an historical period of your choice. You will also learn to work with different kinds of sources and approaches, and will gain an understanding of theoretical perspectives. This second year ends with a full research study in a region of your choice. In the third year, you can broaden your horizons through a minor, and a regional course focused on public outreach.
