Human geography
Master
The Master's programme in Human Geography is a geopolitical study which explores how individual human's behaviour, nations, countries and the spatial environment interact with each other.
Human Geography focuses on the study of the spatial behaviour of people, firms and organisations. In this context 'spatial' can be applied to very different concepts: to physical space, cultural space, experiential space and social space; but also space as an ordering principle for human action. In our modern society, as the mass media can teach us at a glance, 'space', as well as conflicts resulting from different claims on a particular part of that space, are issues of growing importance.
Human geography in Nijmegen is a highly interactive Master's programme. Students are very much involved in education activities and classes take place in small groups. The current master programme in Human Geography (one year, 60 EC) includes five strands. The master thesis research plays a key role in the programme. You will have the opportunity to take several courses which are essential for your master thesis research and which contribute to the specialisation of your choice. So, within the master specialisations, you can tailor the programme to your personal interests!
The Master's programme can also be conducted in dual mode (studying next to working in the human geographic profession).

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.
