The Global Challenges Young Professional programme is a one-year academic talent initiative focused on international cooperation and sustainable development. Participants work four days a week in organisations committed to the Sustainable Development Goals. On Fridays, they attend lectures. By combining problem-based learning with a mentor-mentee relationship, the programme equips young professionals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to address global challenges.
The blended curriculum (75% online, 25% in-person) combines problem-based learning, mentoring, and high-quality teaching. The year includes four modules, each ending with a written assignment. Online lectures are supported by two-day training sessions at hubs in the Netherlands and Kenya, with approx. four hours of weekly preparation and interactive sessions such as literature dialogues.
Trainees hold junior roles in policy, communication, research, or project management, receiving close guidance from a senior colleague.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.
