The master in Italian Literature and Culture at Leiden University offers a multifocal approach to the study of Italian literature. The expansive curriculum spanning the Middle Ages to the present day allows you to pursue your personal area of interest. Examples of subjects are iconography in and around poetry, ethics in war literature and nature in narratives.

All courses, papers and presentations are in Italian and require proficiency at an advanced level. This will greatly improve your fluency in oral and written Italian. If you have a special interest in Italian literature, you can opt for an “Italian track” by choosing up to 3 Italian-language electives or specialisation courses.

This Master prepares you to become an expert on Italian language and culture. Our graduates work in different types of organisations, such as education, government, publishing, media and research institutes. Jobs include editor, translator, journalist and language instructor.
