Our brain has an information processing capacity that far exceeds modern supercomputers. In this specialisation, we aim at unravelling the neuro-computational mechanisms of this fascinating system using experimental approaches and advanced theory.

We study the brain and artificial neural networks through the lens of mathematical modeling and physics. This 2-year masters, unique in Europe, provides a rigorous theoretical foundation in neural systems using methods from experimental physics, machine learning, and computational modelling. Advances in network theory, illustrated by recent physics Nobel Prizes (Hinton, Hopfield, Parisi), and brain imaging technologies are expanding research opportunities in this developing field. Apart from fundamental knowledge of the brain, the Neurophysics specialisation also provides you with a general background in the principles of complex systems, and of intelligent behaviour of living and artificial systems.
