On-site Sanitation and Treatment
Short or summer course
On-site sanitation is the most common form of sanitation around the world. In this course, you will explore these systems holistically, from the superstructure to treatment, gaining a full understanding of how they function and can be improved.
This course serves multiple key audiences. First, civil and environmental engineers typically receive training focused primarily on sewered or networked sanitation systems. This course expands their expertise by introducing them to onsite sanitation solutions, which are often overlooked in traditional curricula. Secondly, professionals working in low- and middle-income countries, as well as those in the humanitarian sector, frequently engage with on-site sanitation systems in the field but lack formal education in this area. This course provides them with the knowledge needed to make informed, effective decisions.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system based on the student workload required to achieve the objectives of a programme of study. Its aim is to facilitate the recognition of study periods undertaken by mobile students through the transfer of credits. The ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits are equivalent to the workload of full-time student during one academic year.
