In this track of the Master Philosophy, you actively engage with the history of modern and contemporary continental philosophy, specifically by way of close-reading and critical analysis of core texts. You learn to pose fundamental questions, analyze key philosophical theories and apply critical analyseis of historical texts to the understanding of contemporary humanity and culture. What does it mean to live in a world of war and loss, social media and digitalization from the perspective of ‘time’ or ‘identity’?  

Topics that are discussed in our classes are: 

  • What is the meaning of art and culture for human experience?  
  • How can art help us to acquire freedom?  
  • To what extent do 'gender' and 'race' play a role in the formation of identities? 
  • What is the relationship between philosophy and psychoanalysis? 
  • What is the relationship between truth and democracy?  
  • What impact do social media have on the public debate in post-truth times?
