Eindhoven Semiconductor Summer School Scholarship (Vietnam)
Scholarship for the period 26 - 30 August 2024. The application deadline is 19 June 2024.
About this scholarship
Vietnam is considered as a main centre in the semiconductor supply chain, strategically located in Southeast Asia and well positioned to make further steps in the international semiconductor market.
As a leading knowledge institution of the semiconductors and photonics industry in the Netherlands, the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) seeks to attract international talents to Eindhoven and the Brainport region. Currently there are over 5000 tech-and IT companies located in the innovative ecosystem of Brainport Eindhoven. Since 2023, TU/e has spearheaded the organization of a summer school on Semiconductors and Photonics, together with academic and industrial partners. TU/e will organise their second Semiconductor Summer School, from 26-30 August 2024 and invite international students from all over the world. The programme is packed with lectures and company visits to world leading enterprises, including ASML, Smart Photonics, and NXP. It will provide students with insights of technology developments, opportunities to discuss with and learn from international professors and CEOs and meet peer students. It will foster new collaborations and exchanges.
At the request of the Netherlands embassy in Hanoi and Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, TU/e is currently reserving five spots for Vietnamese master students to join this Semiconductor Summer School. The Dutch government will sponsor the students with flights and accommodation to attend this summer school. The participation fee is covered by TU/e. Nuffic Southeast Asia (Nuffic SEA) is coordinating the implementation of this scholarship opportunity.
Upon completion of the Eindhoven Semiconductor Summer School, each student will receive an official certificate of participation. In addition, students will get access to an international network within the field of semiconductors & photonics and will have better job opportunities in this sector. After returning to Vietnam, follow -up seminars and workshops will be organised where the selected students can share their knowledge and experiences with fellow students, faculties and interested local businesses and experts.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Vietnamese nationality;
- Active students studying for a master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) from the selected universities*;
- Proficient in English (working level);
- Between 18 and 35 years old at the time of participating in the programme;
- Able to provide at least 1 (one) reference letter from an academic expert;
- Submit a motivation letter and CV in the initial phase for the application;
- Able to provide a copy of a passport valid for at least another six months by the end of August 2024 (for visa requirement);
- Endorse the objectives of the summer school programme and strive to contribute to achieving the goals of the programme. Upon completion of the programme the student will be engaged to contribute to the semiconductor industry by returning to Vietnam;
- Be committed to follow all recruitment steps and participate in the programme attentively;

Be willing to join and share the knowledge and experiences gained in a workshop with peers and other stakeholders in Vietnam afterwards.

How to apply
Please submit your application through this link by 19 June 2024 (9 pm, Vietnam time). Applicants need to submit (in English):
- A Passport copy
- An academic transcript and certificate (original language and official translation in English – if the original is not in English), and grading or marking scale of the Transcript (Interpretation of Grades/Marks)
- English Language Proficiency test
- One Reference letter
- The Reference letter must contain the letterhead of the referee's institution, the referee's name, address and position, and be signed. Your reference letter will be assessed based on concrete examples of your activities (work, research, assignments etc) relevant to this topic or provide examples of your excellence in other ways.
- Motivation statement
- The motivation letter will have a central part in the assessment. Please tell us why you are applying for the summer school scholarship and why you should be selected. Use this letter to tell us more about yourself. Make sure you answer the following questions in your letter:
- What is your background and how do you relate to the theme of the 'semiconductor industry’?
- What has drawn you to this topic and why is it interesting to you?
- What do you believe you can contribute to or what do you want to change in your country with the new knowledge and skills you will gain during the summer school programme?
- What is your future plan/ambition in relation to the theme of ‘semiconductor industry’?
- The letter is a maximum of 1 A4 pages long.
- The motivation letter will have a central part in the assessment. Please tell us why you are applying for the summer school scholarship and why you should be selected. Use this letter to tell us more about yourself. Make sure you answer the following questions in your letter:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV must at least include the following information:
- Current living address and telephone number;
- Educational experience (what period? Diploma obtained or not?);
- Work experience, if applicable (full-time/part-time?, what period?);
- Periods spent abroad, if applicable (what country/countries?, purpose/reason?);
- Extracurricular activities, both study related and not study related;
- Other relevant information.
